KINYA SUMIYA Owner/Senior Hair Stylist

Owner/Senior Hair Stylist, Kinya Sumiya, started Salon Kinya in New York City with his cumulative and international professional experiences which constitute Salon Kinya’s foundation. With over 20 years as a stylist, Kinya has built a remarkable career in every aspect of the industry.

Kinya has a real passion for hair. With an unerring sense of how to unlock an individual’s most beautiful and confident self, Kinya’s true talent is expressed in his innate ability to cut and style hair to perfectly suit the look and lifestyle of his clients. To create personalized looks, Kinya draws inspiration from his native country Japan and the sights and sounds of New York City. He keeps an eye on current trends, pairing with an appreciation for the classics.

Kinya has personally selected each technician on his team, seeking refined artistic ability, personality and a certain savoir faire. His rigorous standards guarantee that salon personnel are the best trained and most talented in the business.

KAZ SAKAGUCHI

KAZ SAKAGUCHI

Kaz Sakaguchi is the former director of a salon in Tokyo, which he ran for more than 10 years. In 1999, Kaz relocated to a salon in New York City. He has been responsible for arranging the appearance of notable NBC newscasters and mainstream musicians alike. He is skilled in the use of new chemical treatments (Keratin, Digital and new Japanese straight perm) and excels at applying highlights, color and perms for both Caucasian and Asian hair-types. His coiffure creations, which compliment both Caucasian and Asian hair-types, have been featured in several photo shoots as well as a hair styling fashion event held at the historic East Village venue, Webster Hall.

Meg trained as a hair stylist for three years in her native Japan before moving to New York City in 2002 where she has enjoyed an active career in the beauty industry. She specializes in colors, cuts, and perms. Meg enjoys traveling the world and finding new inspirations for creating unique hair designs.

Mami Oikawa

Mami moved to New York in 2005 after working in Tokyo for 7 years. She specializes in cutting and coloring as well as Japanese straightening. She considers her client's lifestyle and maintenance desires when designing their new look. She is constantly seeking opportunities to expand her knowledge both in and out of the salon.

Kirana was born and raised in Hawai'i where she attended Paul Mitchell the School Honolulu. After graduating in 2013 Kirana then assisted at Salon Mei in Honolulu. Wanting to expand her knowledge and experience she moved to NYC and joined our team in 2014. She is always learning and makes sure to follow along with the latest trends. Her specialties are  smoothing treatments (i.e. Brazilian Blowout and Keratin treatment), haircuts, and colors.

Taro

Taro has 18 years of experience as a top hairstylist in Japan, working in Tokyo Collection Fashion Show, Tokyo Harajyuku Quest Hall for hair show, magazines photo shoots and at salons located in sophisticated areas in Tokyo such as Ginza, Harajuku and Daikanyama until he moved to NYC in 2014.

He’s specialized in the freeway cuts technique, which he cuts according to different types of hair and it’s natural flow, creating unique textures making it easy to styling in 5 minutes in the hectic mornings.
